This article talks about China getting the jump on the world with IP6. It will be interesting to see how this plays out in the years ahead. This could be one of the tipping points

Second Life , the successful virtual reality space took a major step today by adding browser support. To my mind, this ups the ante considerably. It has already enjoyed a steadily growing user base, an in-world economy with an increasing real world value and such notable users as the Anneberg Foundation - Second Life has already made its mark as the pioneer for VR.
